Egyptian players emerged as the winners of each of the first four quarter-final matches at Chicago's Union Station.

Men’s number one ElShorbagy was forced to come from behind in his last eight tie against Colombia’s Miguel Rodriguez.

Rodriguez began the match in impressive fashion as he won the opening game 11-5, only for his rival to immediately strike back by taking the second 11-7.

ElShorbagy then clinched the next two games by an 11-6 score, ensuring progression into the semi-finals.

The Egyptian star offered some consolation to Rodriquez following the match, claiming it had been one of the Colombian’s best performances against him.

"From the first point I could see his focus, and I knew that I was one for a battle tonight," ElShorbagy said.

"I could see that if I needed to win a point then he wasn’t going to give it easy to me today. 

"I had to win the point myself and I had to extend the rallies as much as possible.

"It was very tough playing him tonight and every point we played, physically and mentally, I had to get my tactics right after I lost that first game, and I’m really glad I pulled through in the end."

ElShorbagy was denied a semi-final meeting with his brother Marwan, who suffered defeat in an all-Egyptian match against Tarek Momen.

World number three Momen produced a fine to secure a comfortable 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 win over his rival.

El Welily, who is married to Momen, progressed through to the semi-final of the women’s event.

She stretched her winning run over Nouran Gohar to four PSA Tour matches, as well as avenging a defeat to her compatriot at the Egyptian National Championships last month.

El Welily clinched a 11-4, 6-11, 11-4, 11-2 win to advance to the semi-finals.

World number four Nour El Tayeb then eased past Hong Kong’s Annie Au 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 in less than 30 minutes to set-up a meeting with El Welily.

Today’s results guarantee an Egyptian player will feature in both the men’s and women’s finals in Chicago.

The remaining quarter-final matches are scheduled to take place tomorrow, with the potential for further Egyptian success with second seeds Ali Farag and Nour El Sherbini set to continue their campaigns in the men’s and women’s draws respectively.
