Norway’s Hermann Tomasgaard and Croatia’s Tonči Stipanovićc picked up the first laser wins on the second day of racing at the Sailing World Cup in Genoa.
Tomasgaard, winner at the World Cup in Miami, and Stipanovićc, Olympic silver medallist at Rio 2016, took hard-earned yellow and blue fleet victories respectively in the 111-boat Laser pack.
The Italian city, hosting this event for the first time, was subject to light winds on the day which meant that the two laser groups could only complete one race apiece on the day.
Competition was also affected in the women’s 49erFX racing, where Denmark’s Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgard Olsen won the blue fleet race, but required to wait on the yellow fleet that had yet to complete its third race of the series.
Competitors in the men’s and women’s 470, 49er, Finn and Nacra 17 classes remained ashore all day.
The laser radial fleet took briefly to the water but conditions were not deemed appropriate for racing.
