Home favourites Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak are through to the men's final at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour event in Warsaw after beating The Netherlands' Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen in the penultimate round.

The top seeds registered a 21-17, 17-21, 15-12 win at the Polish capital's Monta Beach Volley Club.

It followed two other three-set victories today, defeating Russia's Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Igor Velichko 22-20, 17-21, 16-14 in round two and Czech Republic's Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner 17-21, 21-19, 15-11 in the quarter-finals.

"For sure it is a great feeling to play in the final, especially at home," Losiak said.

"That’s great for us.

"It was a really hard day because we played three games with tie-breaks.

"We won all three so now we have to rest and focus on the final.

"For sure, the many fans cheering for us in the crowd help us, so see you tomorrow on centre court in Warsaw."

Awaiting Kantor and Losiak in the final are third seeds Vitor Gonçalves Felipe and Evandro Gonçalves Oliveira Júnior with the Brazilian duo having overcome Latvia’s Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins 21-19, 21-15 in the other last-four encounter.

The final is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

It will be preceded by the third-place play-off, which pits Brouwer and Meeuwsen against Samoilovs and Smedins.

In the women’s event, Canada’s Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson advanced to the final with a 21-17, 21-12 victory over the United States’ Kelly Claes and Brittany Hochevar.

The fourth seeds started their day with a 21-19, 18-21, 15-8 quarter-final win over Barbora Hermannová and Marketa Slukova, thus taking revenge for the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Czech team in the Ostrava final last week.

"We had the Czechs this morning, which was a re-match from final last week, so we knew it was going to be a really hard match," Bansley said.

"They played well and at the end of the third set it came down to our defence.

"We made a couple of adjustments, based on what they were doing, and it paid off for us.

"The USA team were having a great tournament, so we expected a really tough match against them.

"Again, I think it was defence that made the difference and gave us the edge.

"It’s definitely time for gold."

Standing between the Canadians and the gold medal are 10th-seeded Germans Julia Sude and Chantal Laboureur, who beat Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda Santos Lisboa 21-16, 21-18 in the other semi-final.

Claes and Hochevar will face Bednarczuk and Santos Lisboa in tomorrow's third-place play-off, prior to the final.

The event in Warsaw is a four-star competition.
