England have confirmed their netball squad for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, as they look to return to the podium at the multi-sport event.

England were beaten in the Glasgow 2014 bronze medal match by Jamaica, having previously finished third at Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010.

The country have won three bronze medals at the Games in all, having also earned one when the sport made its debut at Kuala Lumpur 1998.

Ama Agbeze has been confirmed as England's captain for Gold Coast 2018, as she competes at her third Games along with Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Jo Harten.

England will also be able to call upon the experience of Geva Mentor, who will make her fifth appearance at the event, while Jade Clarke competes for the fourth time.

The squad also includes Glasgow 2014 team members Kadeen Corbin, Serena Guthrie and Helen Housby, while Beth Cobden, Jodie Gibson, Natalie Haythornthwaite and Chelsea Pitman make their Games debuts.

"The Commonwealth Games is a pinnacle event in the netball calendar, with all the top teams in the world in attendance," said Agbeze.

"Our team have been steadily building to this point and we aim to return England's best result since netball's inclusion in the Games at Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

"We understand that this will be no mean feat, with the Games being in Australia; with its close proximity to New Zealand, both the number one and two ranked countries will have plenty of support on the ground.

"It is an exciting opportunity and we are relishing the challenge."

England's netballers head into the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the back of some of the best results in the team's history.

Victories over South Africa and New Zealand helped them to their best ever finish in the prestigious Quad Series event.

England have been drawn in Pool B alongside New Zealand, Malawi, Wales, Scotland and Uganda.

Hosts Australia are in Pool A, along with Jamaica, South Africa, Barbados, Fiji and Northern Ireland.

Each team will play every other country in their pool during the preliminary round matches, which will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 5 to 11.

This will be followed on April 12 by the classification round, which will see the teams who finish below the top two spots in the groups face-off to determine the final standings from fifth to 12th place.

Competition will culminate with the final at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre on April 14 and 15.

England head coach Tracey Neville believes the team have the right balance to achieve success at the Games.

"I think over the current international calendar all players stepped up in performance and there were some tough decisions made in selection," she said.

"The 12 athletes selected offer us versatility, strength in particular court areas and units, and a wealth of experience with players who can lead the team from the front."

The Games are set to take place from April 4 to 15.
