Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is set to receive NZD$200,000 (£92,000/$133,000/€118,000) from partnering confectionery giant Cadbury to help their athletes on the road to Rio 2016 and assist in the future development of Para-sport in the country, it has been announced.

The contribution is part of a new campaign to "Bring on the Joy", which focuses on delivering messages of support to the New Zealand Paralympic team ahead of the Games, scheduled to take place from September 7 to 18.

The campaign, aimed at inspiring New Zealanders to get behind their athletes, was launched with a nationwide activation featuring New Zealand Paralympians and Para-athletes such as six-time Paralympic gold-medal winning swimmer Sophie Pascoe.

Fellow Paralympic gold medal-winning swimmers Mary Fisher and Cameron Leslie joined Pascoe along with shooter Michael Johnson, winner of the men's mixed air rifle standing SH2 at Athens 2004, and sailing duo Tim Dempsey and Gemma Fletcher.

"We could not be more grateful for Cadbury’s contribution," said Fiona Allan, chief executive of PNZ.

"Paralympics New Zealand relies on a mix of donations, government grants and support from business to run our many sport and community programmes, which includes covering the cost to prepare and take the New Zealand Paralympic team to Rio.

"We still have some way to go in securing the funding we need to give our Paralympians the best chance to bring home gold.

"We hope that Cadbury’s contribution and new campaign will inspire all New Zealanders to get behind us with messages of support and donations."

Cadbury will show their support for the team with a digital campaign and dedicated microsite.

Consumers will be encouraged to visit the site and enter their messages of support for New Zealand's Paralympians.

All messages captured around New Zealand will be shared with the Paralympians in a surprising and impactful way, it is claimed.

Confetti will be used as the glue throughout the campaign, acting as the key visual device to showcase the messages of support.

"We are honoured to be a major partner of Paralympics New Zealand," said James Kane, country head NZ for Cadbury.

"The aim with our NZD$200,000 contribution is to help ensure our Para-athletes fulfil their dreams and build a platform for the next generation to follow their lead.

"In the coming months we will continue to provide the team with our full support ahead of the big event in September."

Cadbury are also partners of the New Zealand Olympic team and will be supportingathletes in the build-up to Rio 2016 in August.

They were announced as a partner of PNZ in September of last year, joining Accident Compensation Corporation and seafood producer Sanford.

Invacare New Zealand, the world’s leading manufacturer of home healthcare and mobility equipment, become the Preferred Equipment Supplier in December.

That same month, PNZ were awarded an increase in funding after High Performance Sport New Zealand revealed their investments for 2016.

The organisation is set to receive an additional sum of NZD$55,000 (£25,000/$37,000/€32,000) as they target success at Rio 2016.
