Scotland's Matthew Ward completed a stellar Commonwealth Youth Games here with a fourth gold on the final day of swimming competition in the men's 200 metres individual medley.

Swimming concluded in a bumper evening session featuring eight finals at the National Aquatic Centre.

Ward ensured he took gold medals on all four days of competition, adding to his success in the men's 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke.

In the individual medley final, he clocked 2min 1.70sec to take victory by 2.14sec ahead of South Africa's Kian Craig Keylock and 2.72 clear of Australia's Kevin Zhang.

England's Oscar Bilbao also finished with four gold medals after contributing to a successful mixed 4x100m medley relay team effort with Blythe Kinsman, Nick Finch and Skye Carter.

They finished in 3:54.02, beating Scotland around four seconds and Australia by just over five.

Nikoli Blackman of Trinidad and Tobago added to his men's 100m and 200m freestyle golds with victory in the 50m final in 22.36, beating Marvin Johnson Jr of the Bahamas by 0.18.

Another home athlete in Zarek Wilson finished third in 22.95.

Carter contributed to mixed relay freestyle and medley wins for England, and collected her first individual gold with a Youth Games record of 25.15 in the women's 50m freestyle, giving her a winning margin of 0.39 over Theodora Taylor of Wales.

Northern Ireland's Ellie McCartney was another athlete who collected multiple golds at Trinbago 2023, following up her women's 200m breaststroke victory with a triumph in the 200m individual medley.

She won the final in 2:15.65, leading a one-two with another Northern Irish swimmer in Grace Davison who posted a time of 2:18.75.

Australia's Mikayla Bird earned a second individual gold and third overall in swimming with victory in 2:12.66 in the women's 200m butterfly, overcoming compatriot Poppy Stephen by 0.68.

Hannah Erin Allen secured another gold for Australia with an impressive win in 8:48.66 in the women's 800m freestyle, and Malaysia's Goh Li Hen was the other victor in 2:03.63 in the men's 200m butterfly.

There was further track cycling action at the adjacent National Cycling Velodrome today, with Australia and Scotland winning two golds apiece.

Lauren Bates added to her road time trial and track points race golds with victory in the women's 7.5 kilometres scratch race for Australia.

Scotland's Millie Thomson earned silver and Keria Will of Australia bronze.

Tayte Ryan was the other Australian winner in the men's sprint, with home favourites Syndel Samaroo and Danell James earning silver and bronze respectively.

Calum Moir clocked 3:22.848 to beat Sam Fisher of Wales by 2.749 in the men's 3,000m individual pursuit final, and Sarah Johnson was Scotland's other gold medallist in the women's sprint.

Competition is due to conclude tomorrow at the Commonwealth Youth Games with medal matches in fast5 netball and beach volleyball on Tobago and the end of athletics, Para athletics and track cycling on Trinidad.
