Germany clinched a fourth consecutive triumph at the Men's Fistball World Championship on home turf in Mannheim without dropping a set.

A crowd of more than 10,000 watched the home favourites beat Austria 11-7, 11-3, 15-14, 11-7 in the final at the SAP Arena.

Austria had six set balls in the third, but Germany's domination was clear and star player Patrick Thomas delivered the match point to follow up their successes at the World Championship in 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023.

Austria have now lost three of the last four World Championship finals to Germany following on from 2011 and 2019.

Germany's head coach Olaf Neuenfeld admitted the final could have ended differently if the third set went in Austria's favour, but praised his players for keeping their cool.

"If that set had gone to Austria, the whole game could have turned around," Neuenfeld said.

"However, we kept our nerves, even though Karl Müllehner played outstandingly and made hardly any mistakes.

"After that, I had a good feeling.

"The World Championship title in Germany was still missing for me.

"This is the icing on the cake."

Germany had progressed through the group stage at the Rhein-Neckar-Stadion by thrashing Italy 11-4, 11-2, 11-5, overcoming Switzerland 11-9, 11-4, 11-3 and triumphing 11-2, 11-5, 11-4 over Namibia.

They then defeated Chile 11-5, 11-7, 11-1 in the quarter-finals, and continued their scintillating form with an 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 success against Brazil in the semi-finals.

Brazil recovered from that loss to take bronze, coming from behind to beat Switzerland 10-12, 11-9, 14-12, 11-7, 14-12.

The Swiss had lost 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 to Austria in their semi-final.

The results ensured the podium matched that in Winterthur at the last World Championship four years ago.

The World Championships also featured a notable result for Chile, who earned their highest-place finish by beating Argentina 8-11, 14-12, 11-7, 11-9 for fifth.

That was despite losing all three matches in Group B, as they recovered to beat Group C winners New Zealand 11-5, 11-7, 12-14, 11-6 to reach the quarter-final, where they lost to Germany.
