Thailand's Napis Tortungpanich has booked his place into the men's 50 metres rifle three positions final at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Grand Prix in Jakarta.

The 2016 Olympian totalled 583 points across the first and second qualifying stages to pip Fathur Gustafian to pole position.

The Indonesian recorded 582 points which is still more than enough to see him progress.

Tortungpanich was formidable across all three positions - kneeling, prone and standing.

The standout performance came in the second round of prone shooting where he shot a perfect 100.

Only one other athlete, Thongphaphum Vongsukdee, scored 100.

Vongsukdee, also from Thailand, achieved the feat in the first prone round on his way to an overall score of 574 points.

The total was enough for him to claim third place.

His compatriot David Toothaweesap secured the eighth and final qualification spot with a score of 566.

Despite Bangladesh's Mohamad Ali posting the same score, Toothaweesap went through as he had recorded more tens, with 19 to 15.

Thailand's impressive performances continued in the women's 25m pistol qualification.

The precision round was won by Tanyaporn Prucksakorn.

It is one of two qualifying elements for the event alongside the rapid round.

The six-time Southeast Asian Games champion scored 97 points in each round for a total of 291.

There were three rounds, each with a different timeframe for athletes to finish their shots.

It diminishes from eight seconds to six and finally four seconds.

Xiu Hong Teh of Singapore scored 289 points to claim second best.

Her countrywoman Shun Xie Teo also shot 289 but Teh got nine tens compared to Teo's seven.

Tomorrow's contests will decide the women's 25m pistol champion following the rapid stage to determine the semi-finalists.

The men's 50m rifle three positions champion will also be crowned in Indonesia.
