Thailand's Napis Tortungpanich topped the scoring in men's 10 metres air rifle qualifying on the first day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Grand Prix in Jakarta.

A four-time Southeast Asian Games gold medallist, Tortungpanich performed consistently at the Senayan Shooting Ground and finished with a total score in 625.9 to book his place in the first semi-final.

Singapore's shooters Zen Joi Lionel Wong and Tianrui Gai had the next-best scores of 624.4 and 622.7 respectively, while their compatriot Marat Lleyton Veloso sneaked through as the eighth and final qualifier by just 0.1 point with his total of 618.3.

Home favourites Fathur Gustafian and Davin Rosyiid Wibowo reached the semi-finals in the Indonesian capital as they posted 621.9 and 620.1, respectively, from their six series, with Bangladeshi pair Shovon Chowdhury and Md Rabbi Hasan Munna completing the line-up for the next stage of the competition.

The start of shooting at the Grand Prix was followed by an Opening Ceremony.

Qualification in the women's 10m air rifle is set to take place tomorrow, followed by the semi-finals and the final in the men's competition.

The women's semi-finals and final are scheduled for later in the day.

This latest leg of the ISSF Grand Prix circuit is set to run until February 17, with events also scheduled over 25m and 50m.
