The University Sports Federation in Liechtenstein (USFL) is using the size of its country to its advantage to work closely with their students.

Comprised of largely a young team of people in their twenties, they look to work as closely to their students as possible.

According to USFL President Christian Schmeth it is key when you are a small Federation.

"Due to the small size of the Federation, we are able to maintain close contact with students for personal advice and support," said Schmeth.

"Primarily we communicate with the students through our member institutions and their sport organisations as well as via Facebook.

"Also through the various national sports Federations for student athletes who are studying abroad.

"Our communication is mainly about upcoming events, recent results and sports offered at the universities."

USFL manages the development of around 1,000 active athletes and has four university members.

The Federation was officially founded in 2011 having previously been under the umbrella of the National Olympic Committee of Liechtenstein (LIE) and even had help from their neighbouring nation to establish the Federation.

"The Swiss University Sport Federation (SUSF) also supported the Federation in Liechtenstein during its early stages of development," adds Schemeth.

"Today USFL still maintains close contact with SUSF, but its work and activities are developed independently."

Since then, USFL has become a member of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) at its General Assembly in 2011 and became a member of the International Federation of University Sports (FISU) that same year at the Summer Universiade.
