The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Japanese public broadcaster NHK will produce an official film of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

NHK will broadcast the documentary before it is released as an official film record of the Games - the company has been involved with the Paralympics since 1964.

"We are really looking forward to working with NHK and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee to produce the official film of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games," IPC President Andrew Parsons said.

"NHK has a long and proud history of broadcasting the Paralympics and we are confident their in-depth knowledge and understanding of the movement and the Games will ensure a fantastic documentary around the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics."

The Paralympics are due to place next year from August 25 to September 6, with an expected 4,400 athletes competing in 22 sports.

"I have said many times that without the success of the Paralympic Games, there can be no success for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games," said Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori.

"Thanks to everyone's support, momentum towards the Paralympic Games is building.

"The Organising Committee is delighted this official film of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will allow memories of the Games
to be passed on as a legacy to future generations.

"We are confident that the collaboration between NHK, with their experience in producing programmes related to Para-athletes and the Paralympic Games, and the IPC, the main host of the Paralympic Games, will produce great results.

"The content of the film and its structure are currently under consideration, and Tokyo 2020 will fully cooperate in its planning and shooting."
