Home favourite Michael Shinohara claimed a second gold medal as action concluded today at the United World Wrestling Oceania Cadet, Junior and Senior Championships in Guam.
After winning the men’s under-87 kilograms Greco-Roman event yesterday, Shinohara secured the 86kg freestyle title at the Leo Palace Resort Zeifro Banquet Hall.
He pinned both opponents in his category - Palau’s Skarlee Renguul and American Samoa's Nolan Puletasi - to seal victory.
Among the hosts' other victors today was Ethan Aguigui, who successfully defended his gold medal from last year in the 61kg freestyle class.
He ensured his success with a 6-3 win over Australia’s Justin Holland.
Other winners for Guam included sisters Rckaela and Mia-Lahnee Aquino in the women’s 55kg and 59kg classes respectively.
Rckaela Aquino beat Australia’s Irene Symeonidis to glory, while Mia-Lahnee Aquino downed New Zealand’s Ana Moceyuawa.
"I was supposed to go for a leg-lace," Rckaela Aquino was reported as saying by Pacific Daily News.
"But I just went for the pin, and that's fine.
"But it's not what I wanted to do - I'm trying to broaden my horizons, I guess."
