Sweden’s Erik Rost claimed victory for the second consecutive day at the Ski Orienteering World Cup Final in Vermont.

Rost had emerged as the winner of the men’s middle-distance race yesterday at the International Orienteering Federation's season-ending event.

He repeated the feat today at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center over a longer distance as he triumphed in the 35-man field.

Rost emerged as the winner in 1 hour 27:00sec.

His nearest rival was Lars Moholdt of Norway, who finished 43 seconds off the pace to end as the runner-up.

Russia’s Eduard Khrennikov completed the podium places in 1:28:10.

There was drama in a closely fought women’s event.

Russia's Mariya Kechkina and Sweden's World Cup leader Tove Alexandersson were both disqualified for route control infringements.

It left Finland’s Salla Koskela to secure the victory in a time of 1:24:14.

The Finnish skier ended just 10 seconds clear of Russia’s Tatyana Oborina.

The bronze medal was earned by Sweden’s Evelina Wickbom, who finished some way adrift of the top two in 1:26:22.

Competition is due to conclude tomorrow with the mixed sprint relay event.
