South Korea will stage an International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup competition for the first time when qualification gets underway tomorrow here in Alpensia, Pyeongchang.

The competition is a test event for next year’s Winter Olympic Games, with three days of action scheduled.

Men’s qualification will draw the focus tomorrow, before the first men’s and women’s events are held on Wednesday (February 15).

The World Cup will conclude with the second competitions the following day.

Both the overall World Cup leaders are expected to take to the ski jump, with Kamil Stoch of Poland heading the men’s standings.

Japan’s Sara Takanashi is the dominant force in the women’s field and could establish a record number of World Cup wins, should she triumph in both competitions Pyeongchang.

The 20-year-old currently trails Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer, who has won 53 men’s World Cup titles so far in his career.

The World Cup is part of Pyeongchang 2018’s packed test event programme, which has already seen cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and speed skating held so far this month.

Freestyle skiing and snowboard competitions have also taken place over the past weekend, with more on the way later this week.

Two training days are set to take place, before freestyle skiing halfpipe qualifying is held on Thursday (February 16) at the Bokwang Phoenix Park.

Competition will follow on February 18.

By contrast, freestyle snowboard halfpipe qualification is due to be held on Friday (February 17), with the conclusion of competition coming two days later.

Luge athletes have also been in Pyeongchang throughout much of the last week, as they train for this weekend’s World Cup.

The International Skating Union (ISU) Four Continents Figure Skating Championships will take place from February 16 to 19 at the Gangneung Ice Arena.

World Junior Curling Championship competition is being held from February 16 to 26, as Pyeongchang 2018’s busy schedule of events continues.
