The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has received a cheque for FJD$17,000 (£4,900/$6,300/€5,600) which will help fund their team at the on-going Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The Pacific country, who have celebrated their first Olympic medal of any colour in Brazil – a gold in the men’s rugby sevens competition – received the cash from Teivovo Rugby’s Culden Kamea and Hot Bread Kitchen Sales and Marketing director Selina Samisoni.

"The Hot Bread Kitchen is very proud to be associated with Teivovo Rugby - another grass roots and family built business," said Samisoni.

"Our employees have relished the opportunity to get behind this initiative by Teivovo Rugby and help fan the spirit of the nation towards a successful Rio 2016 Olympic Games."

Teivovo Rugby have already raised £40,000 ($51,000/€46,000) to boost FASANOC and Fiji’s rugby sevens teams through the sale of wristbands.

This initiative will run until the end of August with the bands available for FJD2 (£0.75/$0.96/€0.87).

Fiji have sent their biggest ever Olympic team to Rio, largely due to the addition of rugby sevens for the first time which allowed the entry of both men’s and women’s squads.

In the rugby, the Fijian men hammered Great Britain 43-7 to clinch the gold medal.

The country’s men’s football team also qualified for the Olympic tournament to further boost numbers.
