Egypt on fire at the African Games

Egypt is the clear medal leader after eight days of competition. The country has won a total of 144 medals (83 gold, 33 silver and 28 bronze) as of Saturday 16 March. Nigeria is in second place with 68 medals: 25 gold, 18 silver and 25 bronze. More than 5,000 athletes from 51 countries are competing for medals and records in 30 sports at this year's event.

The University Sports Federation of Peru (FEDUP) has announced that Lima has been selected to host the Pan American University Games, known as the FISU America Games Lima 2026, organised by FISU America, the Pan American University Sports Organisation.

The International Olympic Committee has no plans to sanction Israel over its war in Gaza before the Paris Olympics. "It's out of the question to think about sanctions (against Israel) at this stage," said Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujan.

Many countries build temporary pavilions during the Olympic Games. These are used for national promotion as well as providing space for fans and official events. Saudi Arabia is negotiating to build a national pavilion during the Paris Olympics. It will be built in the Invalides complex, where Napoleon's tomb is located.
