Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra has been announced as the headline musical act for the Opening Ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, due to take place on October 20.

Yatra, a two-time Grammy Award winner in the Best Latin Pop Album category, including this year for his album entitled Dharma.  

Yatra is expected to perform some of his early hits, as well as his latest single Energía Bacana during the set, part of the Opening Ceremony at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.

"Sebastian Yatra is a world-class artist," said Panam Sports President Neven Ilic.

"He is a tremendous singer with admirable charisma.

"We are very happy that he will be in charge of closing our Opening Ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

"I am sure that all of Chile and the more than 200 million people who will watch the event on television will enjoy it and will have a great memory of this show."

Among the artists and bands joining Yatra on the musical bill for the Opening Ceremony are Chilean rock band Los Bunkers.

The alternative rock band have released seven albums and 31 singles during their career and are reuniting this year for a series of concerts and performances, including Santiago 2023, after separating in 2014.

Also on the bill are the band Los Tres, who perform a mix of Chilean rock, Latin, jazz rock and Chilean folklore.

Los Jaivas, a Chilean musical group specialising in the rock, Latin American fusion and folklore genres are also set to perform as part of the Opening Ceremony.  

The band participated in the Opening Ceremony of the Santiago 2014 South American Games and are set to return to the city nine years later.

The creators of the Santiago 2023 official song Anita Tijoux and Movimiento Original are also set to perform the piece which is entitled A La Cima.

The Pan American Games is due to take place from October 20 to November 5 with around 7,000 athletes from 41 countries due to compete across 39 sports.

Competition as well as the Opening Ceremony is due to be broadcast through the Panam Sports channel.
