Japan won their tenth Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in Iran ©AVC

Japan have won the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Asian Volleyball Championship in held in the Iranian city of Urmia,

They beat host nation Iran in the final 25-20, 25-18, 25-18 in a convincing display to win the title for the 10th time.

Japanese star Yuji Nishida scored 15 points for Japan in the gold medal match whilst Milad Ebadipour was Iran’s top scorer with eight points.

Japan had only dropped a single set throughout the competition as they advanced through the preliminary stages of the competition unbeaten.

In the pool stage they had beaten Thailand and Uzbekistan in straight sets.

A further straight sets win over Bahrain took them into the semi finals where they overcame Qatar in four sets before beating the host nation in the final.

Japan’s Yuki Ishikawa was named  Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

In the bronze medal match Qatar beat China 25-23, 25-19, 25-18,
