World Boxing is calling for candidates to run for Presidency as the governing body - a rival to the International Boxing Association (IBA) - seeks to establish an Executive Board.

A call has been issued for officials to apply for a series of office-bearing positions by August 25, with the election set to be held at the inaugural World Boxing Congress in November.

Among those roles include World Boxing’s first-ever President as well as three-vice presidents and four Executive board members.

World Boxing has stressed that both genders must be represented across all the high-ranking positions.

Candidates are also being sought for the roles of chair on World Boxing’s Sports and Competition Committee, Medical and Anti-Doping Committee and Finance and Audit Committee.

An official can apply for a maximum of two office-bearing positions with their National Federation (NF) required to send their application which is expected to include a "motivational letter" outlining their vision for World Boxing and what they can bring to the role.

World Boxing is also looking for candidates to be members on all three committees and has asked NFs to issue any proposals for changes, additions or amendments to the organisation’s existing statutes and rules and regulations.

An independent third-party organisation is expected to vet all the candidates, with the approved list due to be published 30 days before the staging of the Congress.

The call for candidates has been issued in a letter signed by World Boxing’s secretary general Simon Toulson.

The British official said he was looking forward to working with the candidates to "shape boxing's Olympic future".

"World Boxing is now firmly established and part of the commitments to delivering a sustainable and fit for purpose International Federation to govern Olympic style boxing is to hold a fair, independent and transparent Inaugural Congress, including elections for the office bearer positions of the organisation," Toulson wrote.

"Any candidate for the World Boxing office bearer positions must be supported and submitted by their National Federation.

"It is important to note, for the candidature to be valid at the time of the elections the National Federation must be a full member or associate member of World Boxing at the time of the inaugural Congress."

World Boxing was launched in April and is seeking International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognition.

The United States, Switzerland and New Zealand have so far quit the IBA to seek World Boxing membership.

Argentina and The Netherlands have also resigned from the IBA, while the Irish Athletic Boxing Association revealed last week it was proposing to join World Boxing, with a decision expected to be made at its Extraordinary General Meeting on August 26.

The IBA had been suspended by the IOC due to governance concerns since 2019 and in June became the first governing body to be expelled from the Olympic Movement.

World Boxing, which has been dismissed by the IBA as a "rogue organisation", was set up with the aim of "keeping boxing at the heart of the Olympic Movement".

The Netherlands' Boris van der Vorst, who attempted to run against Umar Kremlev in last year's controversial IBA Presidential election, is among World Boxing's Interim Executive Board.

Other members include USA Boxing President Tyson Lee, GB Boxing chief executive Matthew Holt, Boxing New Zealand chair Keith Walker, German Boxing Association secretary general Michael Mueller, Swedish Boxing Federation Board member Karin Mattsson, Toulson and Filipino boxing completion official Karina Picson.

Britain’s reigning Olympic middleweight champion Lauren Price and American Tokyo 2020 super-heavyweight silver medallist Richard Torrez Jr are the two athlete representatives on the Board.

Van der Vorst has stepped down as head of the Dutch Boxing Federation with a view to focusing on his role with World Boxing, but he has yet to declare whether he will run for President of the organisation.
