Mixed martial arts fighter Yaroslav Amosov has urged people "not to forget what is happening" in Ukraine after making a winning return to the cage during Bellator 291 in Dublin last night.

Ukrainian fighter Amosov defeated Logan Storley of the United States in Ireland last night for the interim welterweight championship, winning courtesy of a unanimous points decision.

Fighting for the first time since being enlisted to the Ukrainian military Amosov received a rapturous welcome from the crowd as he walked to the cage wearing a yellow and blue T-shirt with the words "Colours of Freedom" on it.

Amosov draped himself in a Ukrainian flag during an emotional post-fight speech where he urged people not to forget what has happening in his home country.

"Ukrainian people, I love you," Amosov said, as reported by CNN.

"I love you my people.

"Please do not forget what is happening."

While fighting in the Ukrainian military, Amosov helped Ukraine recapture his home city of Irpin from Russian occupation at the end of March before making the decision to leave Ukraine and focus on his mixed martial arts training.

Amosov has now won 27 successive MMA fights, and needs just two wins to equal Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov’s all-time record of 29 successive wins.
