The passage of the Paris 2024 Torch Relay through France’s Vendée department was passionately acclaimed by the President of its Council. Alain Leboeuf, in a preliminary meeting with Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet.

While details of the route remain under discussion, with an announcement expected next spring, Leboeuf told Estanguet, as reported by lesreporterssablais: "A huge thank you for this beautiful programme, a natural action for the Vendée, recognition for the volunteers who are so involved, a great celebration around sport for young people and adults.

"This will be an opportunity to mobilise the sports and educational communities.

"The Torch Relay will be a great tool to promote those who act in the territories.

"We are investing in our youth."

Leboeuf added that the Vendée had a history of welcoming major sporting events.

The meeting established some principles for the one-day passage of the Torch, with a follow-up discussion due to take place in May or June 2023 at which cities and the route will be finalised.

Estanguet said: "A balance will have to be found to promote places of natural and cultural heritage.

"We can already imagine that a site linked to green hydrogen will be chosen to better show the initiatives taken in this area by the Vendée department.

"But, but, but….. it is still necessary that the distances between the most significant points desired make it possible to complete the course of the Flame in one day!

"It is difficult to run around the Vendée, and choices will therefore have to be made: the Flame will not be able to go everywhere!

"In terms of security, everything is already integrated into the general security system of the Paris 2024 Olympics."

Only partner companies of the Paris 2024 Olympics will be able to display their brands en route at an event that will cost the department €150,000 (£130,000/$157,000).

Estanguet said the price was set after consultations in order to remain within an accessible range, and that this had enabled Paris 2024 to increase the number of departments involved with the passage of the Torch.

A quota of thirty had been planned at the start, but that is now likely to increase to around 60.
