Paralympic gold medallist Jennifer Poist has been appointed chairperson of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) women's division.

Poist, a member of the United States team that won gold at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, assumes the position after it was made vacant by Darlene Hunter.

Hunter has had to leave the role after being appointed as an athlete representative at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

Courtney Ryan and Candice Law have joined the Executive Committee of the women's division at the NWBA.

"As I take on my new role as USOPC athlete representative, I have to vacate the role of chair of the women's division," said Hunter.

"I am very sad to leave this role, but know that I am leaving it in great care of passionate women who will continue to build and expand the women's division.

"Please welcome these women to the women's division Executive Committee."
