Tunisia is set to make its Olympic Games archery debut at Tokyo 2020 after qualifying two quota places, for one man and one woman, at the 2019 African Games in Rabat.

Egypt will be also awarded a men’s place for Tokyo 2020, and Ivory Coast a spot in the women's competition at next year's Games.

Tunisia's Mohamed Hammed qualified a space by upsetting favourite Youssof Tolba of Egypt 6-0 in the semi-finals of the men's individual recurve event, at the Moroccan capital's Moulay Rachid National Sports Center.

"It’s like, how to say, when a dream becomes a reality," he said.

"It is the dream that becomes a reality for archery in Tunisia.

"We have worked for four years for this mind-blowing goal."

Hammed’s Tunisian team mate Rihab Elwalid shot her way through the women's individual recurve bracket.

The 18th seed claimed a stunning 6-2 win over Olympian Reem Mansour of Egypt in the second round.

She then secured a spot in the gold-medal match, and a Tokyo 2020 berth for her country, with a 6-4 semi-final victory over South Africa's Catharina Whitehead.

Both Hammed and Elwalid suffered defeats in their finals today.

Hammed was beaten 6-5 by third-ranked Egyptian Sherif Mohamed, while Elwalid lost 7-1 to Ivory Coast's Esmei Anne Marcelle Diombo.

Diombo, who was eighth over qualification, defeated number-one seed Quinn Reddig of Namibia in the quarter-finals and went on to ensure her nation's spot at Tokyo 2020 by reaching the final.
