Germany ranked fourth in the medal table for the 2016 Winter YOG in Lillehammer, winning seven gold, seven silver and eight bronze.

Two of the country's victories came in bobsleigh with Jonas Jannusch winning the men's monobob event and Laura Nolte coming out on top in the women's equivalent.

Other German successes came courtesy of biathlete Juliane Fruehwirt in the women's sprint, Nordic combined skier Tim Kopp in the men's normal hill/5km, the mixed relay luge team, the snowboard ski cross team and the Alpine skiing parallel mixed team of Lucia Rispler and Jonas Stockinger.

Short track speed skater Anna Seidel was the women's 1,000m bronze medallist and has since gone onto secure a third-place finish in the 1,500m at her home European Championships in Dresden in 2018.

In all, Germany had 44 competitors in 14 sports.

At Innsbruck 2012, Germany topped the medal table with eight gold, seven silver and two bronze.

Biathlete Franziska Preuß was the stand-out performer after winning gold medals in the women's sprint, mixed relay and cross-country skiing relay as well as silver in the women's pursuit.

Preuß is now the holder of four World Championship medals, including 4x6km relay gold from 2015.

Loelling has gone onto become a world and European champion, in 2017, and Olympic silver medallist at Pyeongchang 2018.

Althaus and Wellinger have also had success at the highest level.

The former is a triple world gold medallist and the women's normal hill individual Olympic silver medallist, while the latter is a four-time Olympic medallist, including gold in the men's large hill team at Sochi 2014 and the men's normal hill individual at Pyeongchang 2018, and world gold medallist in the mixed team normal hill event.

Overall, Germany was represented by 57 athletes in 15 sports at Innsbruck 2012.
