Olympic silver medallists Sweden will face Canada for the World Men’s Curling Championship title after both teams claimed semi-final victories in Las Vegas today.

Sweden needed an extra end to edge past South Korea 9-8, while Canada beat Scotland 9-5 at the Orleans Arena.

The clash between Sweden and the 2018 Winter Olympic host nation was a tense affair as the lead continually changed hands during the dramatic contest.

Sweden fell 2-1 behind before skip Niklas Edin scored three to move his side ahead.

The South Korean rink responded with a raise double take-out to level at 4-4 going into the sixth end.

The two sides could not be separated after the seventh as the tie was locked at 6-6 and they traded scores through to the 10th.

After the had encounter finished 8-8 following the final end, Edin drew his stone in the house in the extra end to seal victory and a place in tomorrow’s gold medal match.

“We have been playing close to perfect curling for a week-and-a-half and then having to come out there and literally having no idea what to throw,” said Edin.

“It was tough, we had to fight both ourselves and the ice to stay in that game and not get too frustrated.

“It was difficult for both teams and they made us play some tough shots.

“In the end we were really happy to come home with the hammer.

“I’ve seen this team before this year; their skip is a good thrower and a good tactician.”

South Korea and Scotland will have the chance to end the tournament in the American city on a positive note when they clash for bronze tomorrow.
