Ireland's hopes of qualifying for the Cricket World Cup were seriously damaged as they lost by 107 runs to hosts Zimbabwe in their Super Sixes match at the qualifying tournament.

Sikandar Raza top-scored with 69 not out as Zimbabwe made 211-9 off their 50 overs at the Harare Sports Club.

Ireland were then bowled out for 104 in 34.2 overs in reply, with Paul Stirling scoring 41 and Tendai Chisoro and Graeme Cremer taking three wickets apiece.

Ireland play Scotland on Sunday (March 18) and Afghanistan on March 23, but even if they win both it may not be enough for them to progress.

Afghanistan's surprise victory over West Indies yesterday meant that five teams remained in contention for the two World Cup qualifying spots.

After a dramatic tie with the hosts on Monday (March 12), Scotland maintained their strong challenge for World Cup qualification by beating out-of-contention United Arab Emirates by 73 runs yesterday.

With all teams in the Super Sixes group having played three matches, Zimbabwe lead on net run rate from Scotland, with both on five points.

West Indies have four points, followed by Ireland and Afghanistan on two.

UAE have yet to score any points.
