Switzerland enjoyed a dominant day at the International Ski Federation Ski Cross World Cup as athletes from the country topped the podium in the women's and men's events in Sunny Valley.

Fanny Smith, winner of a bronze medal at the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang last month, took victory in the women's competition before Jonas Lenherr completed the Swiss sweep in the men's event on the Russian course.

Smith qualified in top spot yesterday and continued her run of form as she beat Olympic silver medalist Brittany Phelan of Canada, Austria's Katrin Ofner and World Cup winner Sandra Naeslund of Sweden in the big final.

The Swiss led from start to finish as Phelan came through in second and Ofner finished third.

Naeslund, who had already wrapped up the overall World Cup crown before this event, ended outside of the podium as she was fourth.

It represented another disappointing result for the Swede after she failed to win a medal at Pyeongchang 2018.

"It feels, as always, just amazing to be in top spot today, but it feels even better when we have a real ski cross race like the one today," said Smith.

"Today there was lots of passes, really good racing, nice and fair.

"So I’m so happy to do it today.

"The energy here is so good with the huge crowd, just everyone so excited, it’s really great."

Lenherr claimed the second World Cup win of his career in the men's big final, defeating Canada's Kevin Drury and French pair Jean Frederic Chapuis and Francois Place.

Drury was second and Chapuis, the gold medallist at Sochi 2014, was third.

The Frenchman was able to cut the deficit in the race for the overall title to leader Marc Bischofberger of Switzerland, who failed to qualify for the finals.

Pyeongchang 2018 silver medallist Bischofberger has 457 points and Chapuis has 389.
