France's Jean-Frederic Chapuis returned to winning form today at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup in Idre Fjäll.

He recovered from the relative disappointment of only placing third yesterday in the Swedish resort to gain maximum points in today's big final.

The reigning Olympic champion showed how he is shaping up well for a successful title defence next month in Pyeongchang.

Alex Fiva of Switzerland, who won yesterday's race, had to settle for second place today.

Jonas Devouassoux of France finished third.

Switzerland's Marc Bischofberger still leads the World Cup standings with 397 points despite finishing 16th today.

Chapuis and Fiva lie second and third with respective scores of 309 and 288.

The corresponding women's competition was unable to take place due to adverse weather, meaning that the results of the qualifying competition on Friday (January 12) were used to determine the outcome.

This provided consolation for the home fans as it meant victory for Sandra Näslund.

The Swede finished in front of Fanny Smith of Switzerland.

Heidi Zacher of Germany placed third.

Näslund has now won five of this season's seven events and sits top of the World Cup standings on 620 points.

Zacher lies second on 474 and Smith is third on 353.
