France's Titouan Perrin Ganier and Switzerland's Kathrin Stirnemann were the winners of the respective men's and women's eliminator races at the European Mountain Bike Championships in the Italian commune of Darfo Boario Terme today.

Perrin Ganier won the men's big final in a time of 1min 12.31sec, beating closest challenger Daniel Federspiel of Austria by a margin of 0.83 seconds.

The Netherlands' Jeroen van Eck rounded out the podium in 1:13.47.

In the women's big final, Stirnemann posted a winning time of 1:19.39.

Czech Republic's Barbora Prudková was the runner-up in 1:20.25, followed by The Netherlands' Anne Terpstra in 1:22.49.

A total of 36 nations are expected to compete at the Championships across four days of competition.

Junior races are due to be held tomorrow, along with the women’s under-23 race.

The men’s under-23 event and elite races will bring the Championships to a close on Sunday (July 30).
