Switzerland’s Olympic champion Nino Schurter made it three International Cycling Union Mountain Bike World Cup stage wins in a row as he proved unbeatable over the testing cross-country course at Vallnord in Andorra.

Schurter finished in 1 hour 23min 28sec, putting him 18sec ahead of fellow Swiss rider Mathias Flueckiger, with third place going to France’s Jordan Sarrou.

This latest success for Schurter followed earlier victories at Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic and the German city of Albstadt.

The women’s cross-country victory went emphatically to the Ukraine’s Yana Belomoina, who finished in 1:26.04.

Denmark’s Annika Langvad finished 1.37 behind her while third place went to Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa of Norway.

Earlier in the day, the under-23 men’s cross-country event went to Simon Andreassen of Denmark, who finished in 1:17.14, winning by a single second from South Africa’s Alan Hatherly.

Martins Blums of Latvia was third a further 11sec adrift of the Dane.

Swiss rider Sina Frei earned victory in the women’s under-23 cross-country race.

Frei finished 1.08sec ahead of Kate Courtney of the United States, with Evie Richards finishing third, 1.52sec behind the winner.
