Iran enjoyed a successful third day of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President's Cup as they claimed two gold medals in the men's categories in Athens.

Armin Hadipour Seighalani, the world number five, topped the podium in the under 54 kilogram category to deliver the first success of the day for Iran at the Ano Liosia Olympic Indoor Hall.

The Iranian athlete overcame Gashim Magomedov of Azerbaijan in the final to top the podium, while Great Britain’s Haider Hassan and Abibilla Azamat of Russia each took home a bronze medal.

Abolfazl Yaghoubijouybari then proved too strong for Javier Perez Polo of Spain in the final of the under 69kg weight class to add to the Iranian medal haul.

European Games bronze medallist Si Mohamed Ketbi of Belgium and Azerbaijan's Sina Behrami both finished third.

Turkey's World Championships bronze medallist Rukiye Yildrim managed to get her hands on gold as she fought off competition from 2016 European champion Iryna Romoldonova of the Ukraine in the final of the under 46kg category.

Rukiye's compatriot Ruhat Akalin was the recipient of one of the bronze medals on offer, with the other going to world number one Kyriaki Kouttouki of Cyprus.

The Cypriot admitted she was disappointed but vowed to return to her best at this year's World Championships in Muju in South Korea.

"I am happy to win the bronze medal but I know I could have done better," she said.

"The positive thing was the great chance I had to learn from my mistakes and try to improve for the future.

"I am now in a preparation process for the Muju World Championships and I hope that I can perform better at the upcoming event.

"The President’s Cup was a productive experience with many great athletes, which helped me to test my skills and prepare myself for the future.”

European champion Tatiana Kudashova of Russia beat Serbia's Tijana Bogdanovic, silver medallist at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, to clinch the women's under 53kg honours.

Turkey's Zehra Dosucukur and Latvian Inese Tarvida won bronze.

The event continues tomorrow.
