Glen Durrant secured the men’s British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Championship title for the first time in his career as the event drew to a close.

The English player had headed into the tournament as the top seed and impressed throughout the rounds at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey.

He would make a fine start to the final against Danny Noppert, beating the Dutchman in the first set.

The third seed would respond emphatically by winning back-to-back sets to move into a 2-1 advantage, setting up the prospect of a thrilling final.

There would be little to separate the two men as the halfway point of the contest approached, with the score moving onto 3-3.

Durrant would then highlight why he had headed into the final as the favourite, as the Englishman began to pull away from his rival by winning the next two sets.

A response was required from Noppert if he was to keep his hopes of the title alive, but it would not be forthcoming.

A composed display from Durrant saw him wrap up the two sets he required to seal the title, securing a 7-3 victory in the contest.
