Lisa Ashton claimed the women’s British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Championship title for the third time after comfortably beating Corrine Hammond in the final today.

The English player had triumphed in both 2014 and 2015, with her experience appearing to give Ashton an advantage over her Australian rival, who was featuring in her first final.

Ashton achieved an average of 81.81 to dominant the duration of the contest at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey.

She sealed a straightforward 3-0 victory in the contest, despite the best efforts of Hammond.

The men’s competition reached the semi-final stage, with the first tie seeing the third seed Danny Noppert of the Netherlands taking on England’s Darryl Fitton.

Noppert stormed into a 2-0 lead in the match, but quickly saw the advantage evaporate as Fitton staged a fightback.

He will face the top seed Glen Durrant, with the Englishman producing a dominant display in his semi-final match.

Taking on his compatriot Jamie Hughes, the 46-year-old cruised through the encounter and sealed a 6-1 victory.

Durrant will begin as the favourite in tomorrow’s final, with both men seeking to win the title for the first time in their career.
