China's He Bingjiao has reached the second round of the Bitburger Open, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grand Prix Gold event, with a comprehensive straight games win over home favourite Fabienne Deprez at Saarlandhalle in the German city of Saarbrücken.

He and Deprez clashed in the first match of the second day of action and the women's number one seed made light work of her opponent to ease into round two.

The Chinese player, a Summer Youth Olympic Games gold medallist in Nanjing two years ago, secured her progression with a 21-17, 21-14 win in front of a raucous German crowd.

Porntip Buranapras of Thailand, seeded second in the competition, also successfully navigated her way through.

The 25-year-old raced into a one game lead, taking the opener 21-5 against England's Chloe Birch.

Although Birch began to offer some sort of resistance to Buranapras' play, the Thai player took victory in 22 minutes, winning the second game 21-15.

Completing a successful day for Thailand, 20-year-old Busanan Ongbamrung also made it through courtesy of a straight games win.

Ongbamrung, a Southeast Asian Games gold medallist, cruised through her match with Denmark's Sofie Holm Dahl to win 21-14, 21-13.

A number of German pairs advanced to the second round of the men's doubles tournament today to the delight of the home crowd.

Eighth seeds Johannes Schoettler and Michael Fuchs defeated Akshay Dewalkar and Tarun Kona of India 21-13, 20-22, 23-21, while Peter Kaesbauerr and Raphael Beck gave cause for further German delight as they eased past Vilson Vattanirap and Luka Wraber of Austria 21-12, 21-11 in 22 minutes.

In the women's doubles event, England's double Commonwealth Games silver medallist Heather Olver manage to extend her career with a win over Switzerland’s Celine Burkart and Cendrine Hantz.

Olver will retire from international badminton events after the Bitburger Open but herself and partner Jessica Pugh defeated the Swiss duo 21-9, 21-12.

Action in the men's singles competition brought the day to a close and Shi Yuqi of China, seeded fourth, defeated Erik Meijs of The Netherlands 21-17, 21-17.

Indonesia's Jonatan Christie proved too strong for Slovakian Matej Hlinican as the fifth seed breezed into the next round, winning 21-12, 21-14.
