Mohamed Elshorbagy will take on his compatriot Tarek Momen in the first round of the US Open, with the contest between the two Egyptian players providing one of the highlights of the official tournament draw.

Top ranked Elshorbagy will hope to reclaim the title he last held in 2014, but will have to negotiate an early test against the world number 11 Momen, who will hope to cause an upset.

Defending champion Gregory Gaultier could also have a tricky first round match, with England’s Daryl Selby due to provide the opposition for the Frenchman.

Egypt’s Omar Mosaad will take on England’s James Willstrop in another intriguing match-up, while another Egyptian Ali Farag will face France’s Mathieu Castagnet in a battle between the 10th and 11th seeded players.

Women’s world number one Nour El Sherbini will begin her campaign with a match against a qualifier, following the draw.

Her fellow Egyptian Raneem El Welily and England’s second seeded Laura Massaro will also take on qualifiers at the start of the tournament.

Massaro will aim to defend the title she claimed last year, when competition commences at the Philadelphia’s Drexel University.

Third seed Nicol David will face Denmark’s Line Hansen in her first round match of the tournament.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour event could see the top eight players in the world meet in the quarter-finals, should they negotiate the opening rounds of the competition.

Qualifying is due to begin on October 6, with the finals then due to take place on October 16.

Competition will be broadcast on SQUASHTV and Eurosport Player, while action from semi-finals and finals will be shown on mainstream channels across the world.
