Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen claimed his second slalom victory of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup season after coming out on top in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.

The Sochi 2014 Olympic bronze medallist, winner of the slalom in the French commune of Val d'Isère earlier this month, led after the opening run with a time of 47.34sec.

He then posted 50.46 in run two to register an overall time of 1 min 37.80sec that saw him become the first man to win the opening two slaloms of the season since Austria’s Reinfried Herbst in 2009.

"Madonna is a real classic," Kristoffersen told the Associated Press.

"So many greats have won here - [Alberto] Tomba [of Italy], [Ingemar] Stenmark [of Sweden].

"To be here as a winner is unbelievable."

Kristoffersen secured his sixth World Cup triumph by a huge 1.25 seconds, finishing ahead of four-time defending overall champion Marcel Hirscher, who was involved in a drone crash during his second run.

"This is horrible," said the Austrian.

"This can never happen again.

"This can be a serious injury."

Although Hirscher may have been hit by some small pieces when a drone carrying a television camera crashed to the snow, it didn’t stop him securing the runners-up spot and regaining his overall World Cup lead from Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal, who doesn’t race in the slalom.

Austria’s Marco Schwarz completed the top three in the first night slalom of the season, 1.59 seconds off the pace.

It was his first podium in only his third World Cup race.

The men's circuit is due to continue with a downhill race in Santa Caterina Valfurva, Italy on December 29.
