June 18 - Northern Ireland firm Ulster Weavers Home Fashions have been appointed to produce official London 2012 kitchen textiles, including aprons and tea cossies, it was announced today.

Based in Holywood, County Down, Ulster Weavers were originally formed in 1880 and has held a Royal warrant since 1995.

Its first London 2012 products will be in the shops from the end of 2010 and will include official London 2012 tea towels, aprons, oven gloves, tea cosies and textile bags.

In 2011, this will be followed by official Team GB and ParalympicsGB supporter product across these categories.

The appointment of Ulster Weavers to produce official London 2012 kitchen textiles supports the already substantial London 2012 licensing programme through which vital revenue to stage the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be raised.

Official London 2012 licensed products currently on sale include sportswear, die cast model vehicles and pin badges.

Charlie Wijeratna, the London 2012 Director of Commercial Negotiations, said: "We have had great support for London 2012 from the people of Northern Ireland so it is particularly pleasing to see this being reflected by businesses.

"Ulster Weavers join a growing team of licensees and we’re thrilled to have them on board. Buying Olympic and Paralympic souvenirs is a traditional part of all Games and a great way for people to show their support and enthusiasm for London 2012, TeamGB and ParalympicsGB."
