February 10 - The British Olympic Association (BOA) have hired the former United States Olympic Committee (USOC) chief communications officer, Darryl Seibel (pictured left), as a consultant for the Winter Olympics here and may extend the relationship to the London 2012 Games.

Seibel resigned from the USOC last June after more than six years in the high-profile role during which he was the face of the US Olympic Movement, having to deal with a a number of major issues.

He has spent most of the last 20 years in the Olympic Movement, having previously worked with USA Wrestling, USA Hockey and the Colorado Springs Sports Corp. before joining the USOC.

Since leaving the USOC Seibel has helped set-up a new company, 776 Original Marketing, along with several other former key US Olympic figures, including Jim Scherr and Jim Grice, the ex-chief executive and marketing director respectively of the USOC.

After leaving the USOC he worked for Chicago's unsuccessful bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

Adam Parsons, the BOA's Director of Sport Liaison, told insidethegames: "Darryl's working for us as a consultant.

"We have a contract with 776 for him to work in the communications team and he has done an excellent and important job.

"He will be with the team through to the end of the [Vancouver] Games, at which point the BOA will evaluate our relationship.

"We hold open the possibility that he will continue working with us ahead of, and during, the London Games."

According to public records, Seibel was the USOC's fourth-highest paid employee in 2007, earning a total package of $335,244 (£214,762).

The BOA refused to disclose the financial details of his package.

Parsons said: "Darryl has done an extremely good job in his time with the BOA.

"He's an enthusiastic, innovative and popular professional who has brought some new ideas and proven skills to the team.

"He's working at his seventh Olympic Games, so he has a world of experience and perspective, which has been invaluable."
