September 17 - Olympic bronze medallist Sushil Kumar (pictured) will spearhead India's challenge in the World Wrestling Championship to be held in Herning, Denmark, from September 21 to 27.



Kumar, who won a gold in the German Grand Prix recently, will feature in the 66kg freestyle category.
 

Sushil said he is optimistic about a good performance in the event having reached the quarter-finals in 2007.
 

He said: "I am very excited about the World Wrestling Championship.

"I have been practicing all these months to sharpen my skills.

"After the good showing in Grand Prix, I am confident about performance in the World Wrestling Championship."

Apart from Sushil, Balraj Singh (55kg), Hardeep Singh (60kg) and Anil Mann (96kg) are the other grapplers who will represent India in the freestyle category, while Rajender Kumar (55kg), Ravinder Singh (60kg), Sunil Kumar (66kg), Anil Kumar (96kg) and Dharmender Dalal will compete in the Greco-Roman style.
 

Alka Tomar (59kg) will lead India's six-member women's team which will also have Nirmal Devi (48kg), Babita (51kg), Suman Kundu (63kg), Geetika Jakhar (67kg) and Gursharanpreet Kaur (72kg).
