Weihai china_31-05-12June 3 - The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has named Weihai in China as the host city for the 2014 Long Distance Triathlon World Championships.

The event is the biggest on the ITU's long distance triathlon calendar, which has run for 20 years, and bidding to host the 2014 edition opened in February.

Weihai (pictured above) is a coastal city in the Shandong province in North East China, which has hosted annual long distance events since 2010.

This year it will hold the Weihai ASTC Long Distance Triathlon Asian Championships and ITU LD Triathlon World Series Event.

The 2014 World Championships event will also include the LD Para-triathlon World Championships and hosting of LD age group triathletes from across the world.

The four kilometre swim, 120km bike and 30km run event is this year being held in Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain.

Next year's event will be staged by Belfort in France at the start of June.

The dates for the 2014 World Championships are yet to be confirmed.
