Jacques Rogge_with_David_Cameron_Downing_StreetMarch 27 - British Prime Minister David Cameron is to host International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge tomorrow at a special reception at Downing Street to celebrate the start of the last Coordination Commission to inspect preparations for London 2012.

Rogge is not part of the Coordination Commission for London 2012, which is chaired by IOC Executive Board member Denis Oswald, but he will make the special visit to see Cameron on the first day of the two-day inspection, which is expected to again praise British officials for how well the preparations have gone.

"London has raised the bar on how to deliver a lasting legacy," said Rogge after arriving here.

"We can already see tangible results in the remarkable regeneration of East London.

"This great historical city has created a legacy blueprint for future Games hosts."

The meeting at Downing Street will focus on how Britain is ready to stage the Games and on the preparations that will take place in the final weeks leading up to the Olympic Opening Ceremony on July 27.

The IOC President and the Prime Minister will be joined by International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven, London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe, Sport and Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson and Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

Following the meeting there will be a reception at Downing Street for children taking part in the School Games at the Olympic Park in May.

The reception will be attended by the Princess Royal, who is an IOC member, as well as ambassadors for the School Games, including Sydney 2000 heptathlon gold medallist Denise Lewis.

The inspection will conclude on Friday morning (March 30) when Oswald will host a press conference in central London alongside Coe, London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton and IOC executive director Gilbert Felli.

During each of the previous nine Coordination Commission visits to the capital, Oswald has been full of praise for London 2012's preparations for the Games and it is almost certain he will be equally impressed following this final visit.

Oswald (pictured above left with Coe) has often compared London 2012's excellent preparation to the shambolic build-up to the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympics given that he was chair of the Coordination Commission for the Games in the Greek capital.

During the lead up to Athens 2004, Oswald's Commission was forced to visit the city more than 20 times due to the huge problems with getting the event ready on time.

It is a significant contrast to London 2012's excellent build-up with some critics suggesting that the Coordination Commission should have reduced the number of scheduled visits to the city.

South Africa's IOC Executive Board member Sam Ramsamy, one of the senior members of the  Coordination Commission for London 2012, admitted that preparations for the Games have almost been flawless.

"There is no doubt that Seb Coe, Paul Deighton and the entire London 2012 team have played a role that I have not seen in sport before," he told insidethegames.

"They have taken Olympism and the Olympic Games to a new dimension.

"I'm sure that when we get to London, the Olympic spirit will be very tangible across the UK and that will be a great thing."
