Italy_rhythmic_gymnasts_world_championshipsSeptember 26 - Italy claimed a third successive world all-around title at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Montpellier, finishing ahead of Russia and Bulgaria in the general competition to take their place at the London Olympic Games next year.

Russia and Bulgaria also qualified for London 2012, and were joined by Belarus, Japan and Germany in reaching next year's Olympic Games.

Russia got off to a great start with some superb technical executions before a mistake in the Balls routine marred their performance, and Bulgaria delivered a consistent and steady performance too.

Belarus also wowed the French crowd before a mistake cost them a medal chance, whilst the Ukrainians' creative display put them in fifth spot after an official inquiry into the original scores they were awarded.

Israel, who finished in the top six last year in Moscow, and Azerbaijan, were never in contention after error strewn performances.

China and Spain also flattered to deceive after making impressive starts in the second heat of the day.

Germany's solid but unspectacular showing was enough to earn them an Olympic place after finishing sixth.

Ukraine, Switzerland, Israel, France, Greece and Spain will all have another chance to qualify when they compete against hosts Great Britain at the Olympic Test event.
