National_Sports_Centre_Papendal_temporary_structure_20-09-11September 24 - The Dutch Olympic team are set to train in two new semi-permanent structures installed at the country's National Sports Centre Papendal ahead of the London 2012 Games.

Located in Arnhem, in the Netherlands, the Olympic training facility caters for many sports including athletics, football, golf and virtually all indoor sports, but additional space was needed to accommodate a wider range of sports with different leagues, as well as a new sports education programme in the country.

However, the Netherlands Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) could not predict the length of the agreements so they wanted to commission a flexible yet sustainable structure.

As the official temporary structures supplier to the NOC*NSF, flexible building specialists Neptunus engineered two linked, energy efficient, semi-permanent structures to form over 3,000 square metres of space, a 1,728 sq m purpose built table tennis hall and a 1,224 sq m general training room.

The durable sports halls are constructed from aluminium columns and laminated wooden trusses with insulated sandwich panels so that heat loss and noise are minimised, and the materials can be recycled and used in other projects once the structures are dismantled.

As well as this latest project, Neptunus last year installed a number of all-weather temporary structures to allow Dutch Olympians to train all year round, including a custom-made 1,300 sq m sprint hall and a 1,125 sq m multi-purpose hall with a 13m side wall height to accommodate sports such as badminton and volleyball.
