Alistair_Brownlee_crossing_line_Hyde_Park_August_7_2011August 8 - Britain's Alistair Brownlee is confident that his emphatic victory at the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in Hyde Park yesterday will not give away the secret of how to beat him next year when the London 2012 Olympic triathlon takes place on the same course.

The 23-year-old Yorkshireman, who is the 2009 world champion, cruised to victory in one hour 50min 09sec as he beat second-placed Russian Alexander Bryukhankov by 25 seconds.

His younger brother Jonathan took third place as he finished 30 seconds behind the Russian while current world champion Javier Gomez of Spain, who was one of the favourites going into the race, was destroyed as he finished in fourth place over a minute behind the elder Brownlee.

The win confirmed Brownlee's status as favourite for Olympic gold next year but he said the manner of his victory does not provide any blueprint of how to sabotage or beat on the London course.

"I don't think was too good yesterday or anything like that; it would be pretty sad if you said that," Brownlee told insidethegames.

"In every triathlon, you have to be as good as you can be and do your best to win even if it means your rivals get a good look at your tactics.

"But I don't really think that people will study what I did yesterday with regard to the London 2012 Olympics.

"In the past, people have had the opportunity to study me going into big races but no one has really found a clever way of stopping me so far.

"I think at the Olympics things will be harder.

"For example, I expect Gomez to be a lot stronger and better tactically than he was because I think he got a lot of things wrong yesterday.

"I also don't think it will be so easy for me to get away on the bike but I don't think anyone will watch the tape yesterday and work out a way to stop me from that."

The victory completed a memorable weekend for British triathlon after Helen Jenkins won the women's race the day before.

It also means that Brownlee is now second behind Gomez in this year's World Championship Series having won three of the five races.

There are now just two races left to go in 2011 World Championship Series with the next stop in Lausanne on August 20-21 before the Grand Final in Beijing on September 10-11.

Good performances from Brownlee at the two events could see him overhaul Gomez for his second world title and he admitted that doing so is his primary focus.

"I haven't really thought about the world title until recently but I'm in a very good position to get it having claimed three victories this year," he said.

"People keep talking about the London 2012 Olympics but the world title is the main goal for me right now.

"The Olympic feels a long way away.

"I have Lausanne in two weeks' time and then Beijing next month and those two races are my big goals right now.

"When you think the Olympics are still 50 weeks away; that seems like miles away for me at the moment so I'm not really going to start getting stressed about that right now."
