Gold-Challenge-LogoAugust 2 - Gold Challenge, Britain's first Olympic and Paralympic sport-based charity challenge, has claimed that it has seen significant success in the corporate market with over 20 UK businesses taking up a sporting challenge, including John Lewis Partnership, Coca Cola, Sony, Cisco, Ford, EDF Energy and the UK Border Agency.

Gold Challenge, the independent not-for-profit organisation, challenges participants to take on Olympic and Paralympic sports to raise money for one of its 125 charity partners and it has proved a popular employee engagement programme.

At no cost to a business, Gold Challenge creates sporting challenges for employees who can take part individually or in teams, to raise money for a charity of their choice.

Challenges include the Olympic Sport Challenge, where participants take on one or more Olympic and Paralympic sports, and the 2012 kilometre Challenge, where challengers must cover distances of 2012 kilometres either individually or collectively.

"My vision for Gold Challenge is twofold; to inspire people of every age and physical ability to play sport and raise significant sums of money for charity," said Dan Thompson, the founder and chief executive of Gold Challenge.

"By harnessing the growing excitement around London 2012, we are in a unique position to deliver these two objectives."

Gold Challenge is partnered with Sport England as part of Places People Play, the official mass participation legacy programme for London 2012.

It aims to capture the excitement around the Olympic and Paralympic Games and use the motivation of charity fundraising to allow the UK public to create a truly unique charity challenge.

With over 125 UK charity partners, including Golden charity partners Cancer Research UK, NSPCC, Scope, Right to Play and Oxfam, there is a charity for everyone.

By the end of 2012, Gold Challenge aims to have encouraged 100,000 people to complete personal sporting challenges, raising £20 million ($12 million/€23 million) for charity in the process.
