British_GymnasticsMarch 17 - A pioneering new education strategy that aims to educate and inform the gymnastics community about drugs issues in sport has been launched by British Gymnastics and UK Anti-Doping.

The initiative aims to share the responsibilities of gymnasts, coaches, parents and support staff to ensure the sport remains doping free.

The ground-breaking programme marks the first time a National Governing Body has ever worked in this capacity with UK Anti-Doping and reaffirms the proactive approach British Gymnastics is making.

Steve Green, performance director and anti-doping officer, said: "British Gymnastics have embedded this subject matter within their programmes for the last decade.

"We have consistently championed drug-free sport with our elite performers across the disciplines and we continue to do so.

"What the education strategy allows is the unique opportunity to work with a committed team of regionally based facilitators, across the UK, to ensure we can consistently educate the future stars, their parents and coaches.

"Together our aim is for British gymnasts to be among the most educated within British sport and Europe."

Amanda Batt, UK anti-doping education manager, added: "This strategy represents the future of education in anti-doping and the success of this launch gives us the confidence to look towards rolling this programme out to every sport in the future.

"British Gymnastics' enthusiasm and understanding towards anti-doping is integral to the success of our strategy – the sport appreciates the need for integrated education across the board and has proved an ideal role model to collaborate with in the launch of this scheme."
