Munich_2018_countdown_clock_2_February_26_2011February 26 - Munich 2018 and national sponsor BMW Group today unveiled a symbolic and spectacular clock at the car maker's headquarters that will count down the final days, hours and minutes until the moment when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elects the host city for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.


Munich is bidding against rivals Annecy and Pyeongchang with the IOC due to announce the winner at its Session in Durban on July 6.

The clock was unveiled on the eve of the IOC's Evaluation Commission visit to the Bavarian capital, which is due to start next Tuesday (March 1). 

BMW's global headquarters is located on the edge of Munich's Olympic Park, which was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics.

The clock, which is 14 metres long and four metres high, began counting down from 130 days today until the decision.

It was unveiled with the help of leading sports personalities: Munich 2018 sports ambassador and world bobsleigh champion, Susi Erdmann; Davis Cup tennis coach, Patrik Kühnen; and Germany's top tennis player, Philipp Kohlschreiber.
