France_TelevisionsFebruary 6 - France Televisions has won the right to provide the country's terrestrial coverage of the 2011-2013 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Athletics Series (WAS), it has been announced.

The public broadcaster, renowned for its creative approach to athletics, has agreed a deal with IEC in Sports, the IAAF's exclusive media rights agency for Europe and Africa, and covers all WAS events through to 2013.

It will also provide extensive coverage for the 2011 and 2013 IAAF World Championships in Daegu and Moscow respectively.

France Televisions has been the IAAF's long-time broadcast partner in France and last summer it successfully broadcast the European Championships in Barcelona, following on the back of the success of the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin.

With the conclusion of the deal, the IAAF has secured the second of the top five European territories, having previously announced an agreement in the UK with Channel 4.

The IAAF now has a stable of confirmed deals that provide coverage in 65 territories throughout IEC's territory.

Additional announcements are expected in the near future.

"All but one of the broadcasting deals which have so far been concluded in Europe are on terrestrial TV, which is especially encouraging as it ensures the widest possible audience for the IAAF World Championships, providing spectators and commercial partners with the best delivery of the sport of athletics," said IAAF President Lamine Diack.
