USA Surfing announces new CEO and Board Members. USA SURFING

USA Surfing led the media and communications efforts for surfing's Olympic debut and Carissa Moore's historic gold medal. The sport's governing body in the United States now has a president and a new Board.

Board President Rob Pendergist welcomed five new members to the Board of Directors: Kayla Durden, Christine Benedetto, Laura Bren, Dana Cummings, and Karin Kendrick. "This board is full of talent, ideas and commitment to creating more opportunities and growth in surfing. We are developing task forces in several key areas related to the growth and impact of USA Surfing, including athlete performance and development, membership and partnerships, and media and marketing."

USA Surfing has appointed new Board members, a new president and chief executive officer, along with the new organisational structure in anticipation of a year that will culminate in Paris 2024. Officially recognised by the International Surfing Association as the governing body for surfing in the United States, it named a new Board.

Pendergist was particularly pleased that the Board unanimously selected Becky Fleischauer Jewell as USA Surfing's CEO, citing her work and track record. "Becky has a solid track record of working with some of the nation's most successful non-profit organisations and has worked with us for the past several years, including leading the communications and media efforts for USA Surfing's Olympic debut in 2021. She is a quiet force with strong relationships, diplomacy, and knowledge of surfing from both an internal and external perspective."

Head Coach Ryan Simmons also commented on their long-standing  relationship and the benefits of having her as CEO: "I've known Becky for a number of years working together at USA Surfing. Having her as the new CEO is a huge step forward for the organisation. She is smart and well liked in the surfing community. Having her in this role will lead to the implementation of new and exciting opportunities for us. As Head Coach, I feel a sense of renewal and revitalisation in leading the surfers under Becky's leadership."

New CEO, Becky Fleischauer, commented, "I am honoured to accept this opportunity at a pivotal time in the development of surfing, which is experiencing incredible growth, but at the same time, the surfing industry is undergoing massive changes with the loss of traditional sponsorships. USA Surfing will navigate through these uncertain times and be a constant source of support for all of our athletes, with positive competitive experiences, world-class coaches, and eternal excitement. I thank the new board for this exciting opportunity."
