Milan Vader claimed the overall victory in the final International Cycling Union WorldTour race of the season as Jumbo-Visma dominated the Tour of Guangxi.

The Dutch rider finished safely in the overall peloton on the final stage in Guilin as he triumphed by six seconds from French rider Rémy Rochas of Cofidis.

Britain’s Ethan Hayter of Ineos Grenadiers completed the overall podium at 11 seconds behind Vader.

Vader took charge of the race when he won the fourth stage on Sunday (October 15), a medium mountain stage from Nanning to Mashan Nongla Scenic Spot, for the first stage road race victory of his career.

Vader is originally from a mountain biking background but turned professional on the road in 2022, although he missed much of his debut season after a severe crash at the Itzulia Basque Country that left him in an induced coma.

Jumbo-Visma won three stages in total during the race, which was returning after a three-year absence from the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Their other two victories went to Dutch rider Olav Kooij who won stages three and six.

Jumbo-Visma competed at the race with a team of five riders, one less than the majority of others.

Reflecting on his win Vader said: "We’ve won three stages and the overall, I’m very proud of the team.

"We were super motivated and focused from the first day. My teammates kept me safe and now I’m happy we can celebrate together."
